What is the Education Fund?
Education Fund is a statewide multi-employer fund supported through employer contributions (that nursing home workers bargain for through negotiations), NOT UNION DUES.

We serve:

  • The needs of workers across a range of educational levels and career paths.
  • Adult learners who may be returning to the classroom after many years.
  • The employment and training needs of long term care facilities.
Our focus is to:

  • Provide quality educational programs
  • Enhance skills
  • Increase access to greater career opportunities
  • Improve the quality of resident care
  • Prepare the workforce for job demands of the future
  • Improve retention rates
Currently, we serve long term care workers at 46 participating long term care facilitates throughout California covering a variety of job titles including nursing, dietary, maintenance, and service department workers. We offer a range of educational services and opportunities to our bargaining unit members including:

  • Skill building courses
  • Continuing education units
  • Individual case management
  • Assessment testing
  • Preparatory and bridge course offerings
  • Recertification courses

How to Enroll in Courses?
If you are an employee of one of the above listed facilities, part of the bargaining unit that is covered by your Collective Bargaining Agreement and interested in enrolling in a class, please review the Eligibility Policy for Benefit Utilization (Approved by Board of Trustees on April 7, 2016) before reaching out to us to find out more about current or future program offerings.

Education Fund Updates
  • Courses are held at participating long term care facilities and at SEIU Local 2015 Union Halls to bring trainings directly to bargaining unit members.
  • In 2016, 204 bargaining unit members and 33 employers across the state participated in our Annual survey providing valuable feedback and recommendations addressing their educational and training needs. A few of the outcomes include:
    • Approximately 72% of employers reported being either ‘Satisfied’ or ‘Very Satisfied’ with the Education Fund Staff.
    • Approximately 59% of employers and 42% of workers would like for the Education Fund to offer CPR training.
    • A comment from an employer: "Thank you so much for sending an excellent instructor Stacey for the CPR Class. Our CNAs who attended appreciated very much the very good quality of the CPR class. I have shared to other SDCs the excellent feedback and the efficient working relation we had with you and Adi. I am looking forward to another CPR Class in the near future."
    • Approximately 77% of workers reported being comfortable with participating in courses offered onsite at their facility
    • Approximately 71% of workers reported Education Fund courses were offered on convenient days and times.
